The Junior High Director leads our ministry to students in grades 6–8, helping them take meaningful steps toward owning their faith in Jesus. This role plays a key part in the FaithKids-to-Student Ministry pathway, intentionally guiding students through a critical season of spiritual and relational development.
This leader will partner closely with parents as the primary disciple-makers in their students’ lives, equipping and encouraging them while creating environments where students can belong, grow, and follow Jesus.
The Junior High Director will also collaborate with the Next Generation team to ensure alignment in vision, strategy, and discipleship from childhood through high school.

key responsibilities
Discipleship & Relational Ministry (35-40%)
- Build intentional, Christ-centered relationships with junior high students
- Disciple students personally and through small groups, while equipping leaders to do the same
- Be present in students’ lives outside of church (school events, activities, etc.)
- Create a culture of belonging where every student is known and valued
- Partner with parents as the primary spiritual leaders of their students by providing encouragement, tools, and consistent communication
- Walk alongside students and families through spiritual, relational, and personal challenges
- Help students begin to take ownership of their faith during this foundational season
Programs & Teaching (30-35%)
- Plan and lead engaging weekly junior high gatherings (midweek and/or Sunday environments)
- Teach Scripture in a way that is biblically faithful, relevant, and engaging for middle school students
- Design environments that balance fun, connection, and spiritual growth
- Plan and execute key milestone experiences (camps, retreats, service opportunities, parent events)
- Maintain a healthy and sustainable annual ministry rhythm

- From FaithKids into Junior High
- From Junior High into High School ministry
Team Leadership & Development (15-20%)
- Recruit, train, and develop a strong team of junior high leaders
- Cast vision regularly and cultivate a unified, healthy team culture
- Equip leaders to disciple students, not just supervise them
- Provide ongoing coaching, encouragement, and care for volunteers
- Ensure all leaders meet safety and training requirements
Family Partnership & Communication (10-15%)
- Build trust with parents through consistent, clear, and helpful communication
- Provide practical resources and guidance to help parents disciple their students
- Create opportunities for connection with parents (meetings, events, conversations)
- Help parents understand the spiritual and developmental needs of junior high students
- Champion a ministry philosophy that sees the church as a partner—not a replacement—for the home
Administration & Collaboration (5-10%)
- Manage ministry budget and submit expenses in a timely manner
- Maintain clear communication with the Next Generation Director and team
- Participate in staff meetings and Next Generation planning
- Follow all safety, child protection, and risk management policies
- Contribute to the overall vision and strategy of Next Generation ministry
Qualifications
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a growing, active faith
- Commitment to the mission and values of the church
- 1–3 years of experience in student ministry (paid or volunteer) preferred
- Strong relational, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to teach and communicate Scripture effectively to students
- Experience working with or leading volunteer teams is a plus
- Seminary or Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- Ability to pass a background check and complete required safety training
- Familiarity and ability to become proficient in Planning Center and G Suite products to effectively communicate
- Experience in budgeting and ability to handle planning the yearly budget
Schedule & Expectations
- 20 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and key events
- Active participation in the life of the church
- Regular connection with students, leaders, and families
- Annual review with the Next Generation Director and Executive Pastor
